Speakers bios

Professor Julian May

Based at the University of the Western Cape (UWC), Professor Julian May is the director of the CoE-FS, a co-principal investigator of the centre’s “Governance and Policy” programme, and holds the UNESCO Chair in African Food Systems. His current research focuses on food security, childhood deprivation and malnutrition.

 

Professor Lise Korsten

Professor Lise Korsten is the co-director of the CoE-FS, and the president of the African Academy of Science. Professor Korsten is based at the University of Pretoria, in the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences. Her research focuses on complementary fields of postharvest technology and food safety related to international trade in fresh produce requirements.

 

Associate Professor Wiedaad Slemming

Wiedaad Slemming is an Associate Professor in Paediatrics and Child Health and currently serves as the Director of the Children’s Institute, an applied research unit at the University of Cape Town. Her areas of expertise are early childhood development, maternal and child health, child disability and health systems strengthening.
