Professor Stephen Devereux is a development economist working on food security, famine, rural livelihoods, social protection and poverty reduction issues. His research experience has been mainly in eastern and southern Africa. He works at the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex, UK, where he is co-director of the Centre for Social Protection. He holds the NRF Research Chair in Social Protection for Food Security, affiliated with the DSI–NRF Centre of Excellence in Food Security (CoE-FS) and the Institute for Social Development at the University of the Western Cape, South Africa.
